Large ceiling fans, from 60 inches up to the 84-inch Martec Albatross II, for rooms where a standard 48-inch fan cannot shift enough air — open-plan living, high and raked ceilings, halls, sheds and big alfresco areas. Eglo, Brilliant, Martec and Domus DC models dominate here, because a DC motor turns a bigger blade span quietly and cheaply. Extension downrods are available to drop a fan to the right height, which matters more on a large span than most people expect.
